Are Modular Laptops Finally Here? Or Just Another Tech Comeback
Modularity in tech is one of those ideas that keeps coming back every few years like a zombie that refuses to stay dead after a shot in the head. Too graphic? The promise is always the same: a device you can upgrade over time instead of replacing entirely. And to be fair, it never sounded more plausible than it does now, especially with companies like Framework actually shipping products that feel closer to a real solution than just a concept. Still, there’s always that lingering question: is this finally it, or just another round of “almost there”?
At the same time, everything else in tech feels just a bit… unstable. AI systems are still struggling with basic vulnerabilities like prompt injection, Windows updates continue to break things in creative new ways, and even massive players like Google are dealing with regulatory pressure that promises a lot but doesn’t quite deliver. Add to that some oddly specific stories like a mechanical keyboard with a name no one can pronounce, game launches that look suspiciously like DDoS attacks, and a wave of nostalgia apps trying to bring back 2011, and it all starts to feel less like a coherent industry and more like a very chaotic group chat. Maybe modularity is the future, but right now, tech still feels very much like it’s figuring itself out in public.
